HEALTH MINISTRIES
Our Health Message

Ottawa East Seventh-day Adventist Church Health Ministries is an integral part of our Church. We strongly believe that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we have been entrusted with the privilege of maintaining it. This ministry strives to meet the health needs of the church and community by promoting the importance of health and wellness through, education, maintenance and prevention. This Ministry coordi nates the planning and organization of health screenings and health seminars for the public; these seminars are routinely conducted on nutrition, heart disease, stress management, physical fitness, weight control as well as screening projects for high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and other health problems. Our main objective is to help men and women reach their full potential, mentally, spiritually and physically.

PURPOSE

  • To encourage the study of the biblical principles and the Spirit of Prophecy counsels on health and temperance.

  • To encourage the application of the principles of healthful living among church members.

  • To foster good relationships with community health and temperance health organizations

  • To arrange for and promote the holding of health and temperance education for the church and for the community it serves.

  • To promote an ongoing witness in the community concerning the destructive effects of tobacco, alcohol, and other lifestyle choices.

HEALTH MANDATE

The Church believes its responsibility to make Christ known to the world includes a moral obligation to preserve human dignity by promoting optimal levels of physical, mental, and spiritual health.

In addition to ministering to those who are ill, this responsibility extends to the prevention of disease through effective health education and leadership in promoting optimum health, free of tobacco, alcohol, other drugs, and unclean foods. Where possible, members shall be encouraged to follow a primarily vegetarian diet.

"Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security" - Jeremiah 33:6

It is not easy to maintain balance in a busy life.  But, not being easy does not mean it is not achievable.  Stressful, busy periods of ministering to people may be inevitable and can be manageable in the short-term. But when we don’t take steps to keep the stress levels under control, we can become victims of long-lasting negative consequences.

We usually think of stress as being caused by negative pressures or unhappy events of life. Those are easily recognized. However, sometimes we do not realize that even “good pressures” and working for a good cause,...
